Sixth Street reopened to Murray Bridge public

Posted On March 21, 2017

The newly revamped Sixth Street has today been officially reopened to the public in Murray Bridge last week, after $3.4 million worth of works were completed.

The works to transform Sixth Street into an innovative shared space for community and art events came as part of the Coalition Government’s National Stronger Regions fund.

Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash spoke of the new space and the benefits it will have for the local community.

“One of its key design features is the addition of movable street furniture that can be used to block off the road so residents and visitors can experience and participate in local arts and cultural events.

“I aim to build the types of regional communities our children and grandchildren either want to stay in or come back to, and the ability to showcase local arts and cultural diversity definitely helps do that,” Minister Nash said.

Federal Member for Barker Tony Pasin attended the official opening and was full of praise for the project.

“I am also proud to see that locally produced Kanmantoo Bluestone was used in the new road surfaces—boosting local industry and the economy,” Mr Pasin said.

“The economic and social benefits of using locally produced materials goes a long way in improving the region and ensuring that projects like this one provide real dividends to the community.”

The project was co-funded by the SA State Government and the Australian Government.
