SA Government commits $3.7 for road maintenance projects

Posted On September 26, 2016

$3.7 million in funding for road safety and maintenance projects has been announced as part of the South Australian State Government’s commitment to fixing  and ensuring local roads are safe to drive on.

The works come immediately after the $1.5 million Tod Highway upgrade was finished. The works on the Tod Highway included shoulder sealing between Lock and Tooligie.

Five new projects are soon to begin. One of the projects involves the resurfacing of two sections of Main South Road in Hackham and McLaren Vale that will total up to $1 million. These works are expected to be completed by the close of September and October respectively.

Mt Barker will also receive a $770,000 resurfacing, which will be completed in the immediate future, weather permitting.

Every project will have work undertaken on it during the time of 7am-7pm daily, with traffic restrictions in place to ensure the safety of motorists and workers.

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Stephen Mulligan spoke of the upcoming and completed works.

“Improving the quality of the road surface not only makes for a smoother journey but can also help to make the road safer and reduce wear and tear, while shoulder sealing also improves safety by reducing the risk of ‘run-off road’ type crashes.

In the 2015-16 State Budget, we invested an extra $110 million for critical road maintenance and safety projects, bringing the Government’s total investment including ongoing funding to more than half a billion dollars over four years.

These projects are an important addition to the more than $2.6 billion of major transport infrastructure projects already underway in Adelaide and also complement other works to improve traffic flows through Operation Moving Traffic”

The State Government has urged motorists to download   the free AddInsight app for Apple or Android to keep up with any delays or restrictions on their roads.
