The Expanding State High Schools Program came courtesy of a $60 million investment from the State Government in the 2010/11 state budget.
The Marryatville High School redevelopment began in December 2012, with the Learning Centre having finished construction in 2014, with the other buildings being finished recently.
Education Minister Susan Close spoke of the upgrades and the State Governments commitment to furthering education in the state.
“This is a significant investment by the State Government to increase Marryatville High School’s enrolment capacity and improve the learning spaces for staff and students.
Marryatville’s school community will be able to enjoy these contemporary and spacious facilities that are designed to support collaborative learning amongst their peers”
The new Learning Centre offers a roomy collaborative learning space, as well as eight new science laboratories. Other works for the project include the upgrade of the student services facility as well as an upgrade to areas where the administration is done.
The whole school was upgraded with state of the art outdoor learning areas as well as a new courtyard, walking trails and footpaths.
This outdoor area won the 2015 Landscape Architecture Design Award from the institute of Landscape Architects, which was awarded to the designers responsible for the area.
The car park also received 14 more parking spots for onsite staff and visitors.
The schools accessibility was also vastly upgrade, with two new lifts installed in buildings 1 and 7 that will now help students with disabilities and mobility impairments to access the learning areas above student services and administration with ease.
Students and families have reacted very positively to the new contemporary designs, and students have said the light and bright spaces have enhanced their learning experience during school.
