SA water industry leaders honoured at the Smart Water Awards

Posted On July 15, 2016

South Australia's water industry leaders have been recognised at the Water Industry Alliance’s annual Smart Water Awards at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

The awards celebrate the achievement of the leading businesses in the South Australian water industry.

Water Minister Ian Hunter presented the Minister’s award for climate change leadership in South Australia to Micromet.

Micromet is an Adelaide-based company that solves industrial effluent and water-based environmental problems.

The award is for its development of an electro-coagulation waste system that can quickly turn liquid from primary treatment ponds into clear, useable water. The system also uses much less power than any similar systems.

The Smart Water Awards have been running for 15 years and recognise those in the industry that are shaping the future of the water industry and leading the way in innovation.

There are seven award categories including irrigation and resource management, water treatment and reuse, leadership, planning and delivery, excellence in environmental practice and climate change adaptation.

The Water Industry Alliance is a globally recognised hub of water expertise and research in South Australia, including private companies, research and training organisations and Government focused on sharing South Australia’s water expertise with the world.

South Australia is known internationally for its excellence in water management and innovation and is using this to develop export opportunities and partnerships with India and China.
