New safety strategy for railway crossings

Posted On July 29, 2016

DPTI has launched an online survey seeking feedback on the newly-released draft Railway Crossing Safety Strategy.

It’s part of a State Government review of level and pedestrian crossings throughout South Australia’s rail network.

The government will invest $12m over the next four years for a program of upgrades at railway crossings.

The strategy outlines various safety issues at railway crossings in South Australia and proposes a range of measures including:

  • Grade separating railway crossings
  • Identifying crossings for infrastructure and safety improvements
  • Identifying crossings for possible closure where safer alternatives exist
  • Increasing the use of CCTV and safety cameras to manage the risk of queuing

Go to the YourSay website to read the Draft Railway Crossing Safety Strategy and have your say in the survey.

The survey only takes about five minutes, and closes at 5pm, Friday 9 September.
