Operation Moving Traffic is an initiative started by the South Australian State Government to formulate and develop basic solutions to tackle congestion and safety concerns at a low cost to the taxpayer.
It is hoped that the operation that will begin in late August will greatly improve the flow of traffic and safety between Glynburn/Anzac Highway and on Greenhill Road.
The improvements will come thanks to a change in the operating hours of clearways and bicycle lanes on the aforementioned roads.
The previous hours of operation were 7:30am-9am and 4:30pm-6pm, Monday to Friday. The new hours of operation are:
Anzac Highway to Fullarton Road: 7.00 am to 10.00 am and 3.00 pm to 7.00 pm (both eastbound and westbound) Monday to Friday.
Fullarton Road to Glynburn Road: 7.00 am to 10.00 am westbound and 3.00 pm to 7.00 pm eastbound, Monday to Friday.
The change in operation times are a key part of The Federal Office of Road Safety’s aims to reduce the amount of rear end and stationary accidents that are more prominent during peak hours.
The Office found that as a result of clearway changes, that it is 20% less likely for rear end accidents, and 50% less chance of an accident involving parked/parking vehicles.
Signs that indicate the changes will roll out in two stages. The Anzac Highway to Fullarton Road sign will go up on the 28th August, with the project expected to finish mid-September.
The Fullarton Road to Glynburn Road signage will go up during the middle of September, with an expected finish for the project estimated to be in mid-October.
Surveys regarding the effectiveness of these changes will be available on the Operation Moving Traffic website.
