Construction works begin on new Port Adelaide office building

Posted On February 6, 2017

Construction works have started on a new office building in Port Adelaide that will provide a workplace for up to 500 State Government workers.

The $40 million project will be developed by epc.Pacific at the corner of Nile and Robe Street, and has been designed to achieve a minimum 5 Star Green Star fit-out rating and a minimum 5-Star energy and water consumption rating.

Infrastructure Minister Stephen Mullighan said the project would have many benefits for local workers and businesses in the area.

“This is another important project in the State Government’s plans to revitalise and renew Port Adelaide.

“The construction will create jobs for local workers and, once complete, having hundreds of public servants will grow local activity and increase the income for local businesses such as cafes and shops.

“Together with the new housing being developed from later this year on the waterfront in the Port’s inner harbour, people will return to the Port to live and work.

“As a Government we have been working hard to bring more and more people into the Port, whether it is hundreds of office workers or the thousands of people who will be working on the $50 billion Future Submarines project,” said Mr Mullighan.

The building will boast significant retail space on the ground floor, with three levels of offices to be built above. A 142 capacity parking space, the multi-storey carpark will also be constructed for office workers.

Port Adelaide Enfield Mayor Gary Johanson echoed the sentiments of the Infrastructure Minister about the importance of the project for the Port Adelaide region.

“It’s been great to see the Nile Street building site preparations get underway and there’s a noticeable buzz within our business and residential community now that construction is about to begin.

“Since the announcement of this project, several new cafes and restaurants have opened up in the Port CBD, signifying a growth in business confidence with the knowledge that buildings like this will deliver 500 extra workers into Port Adelaide during the week.

“This building will contribute to the overall Port Renewal Project and the Council is delighted to partner with the State Government, developers and other agencies to ensure the development’s success,” said the Mayor.

The State Government is expecting the building to be completed in the second quarter of 2018.
