The 11th Annual SA Major Projects Conference is taking place in Adelaide on the 24th and 25th July this year as SA focuses on better infrastructure planning to support long-term economic growth.
The 2-day conference will not only feature presentations on the major infrastructure projects in the pipeline for the State but will also explore the plans and policies of the newly elected Government.
Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government, Planning, Hon Stephan Knoll will be addressing delegates on day 1 of the conference. Major projects to be highlighted over the 2-day conference include the Northern Connector Project, the Aurora Solar Energy Project, Adelaide Tarcoola Rail Upgrade Acceleration Project, Oaklands Crossing Grade Separation Project in addition to multitude of projects in the pipeline covering the infrastructure sector.
The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) will fast track a major upgrade to the east-west national rail network. The upgrade will involve 1200 kilometres of rail replacement between Adelaide and Tarcoola, and will deliver a substantial boost to freight productivity in South Australia and the national freight network. The ARTC is expected to partner with Arrium Steel to deliver the upgrade, substantially boosting demand for steel production at the Whyalla facility.
The Aurora Solar Energy Project located near Port Augusta is a 150 megawatt solar thermal power station incorporating 8 hours of storage (1100 megawatts-hours).
Aurora will deliver over 500 gigawatt-hours of energy annually – providing fully dispatchable baseload electricity to the network when electricity is needed most.
Storage will enable the solar thermal station to operate just like a conventional coal or gas power station, reliably generating electricity day and night – except without any emissions.
The City of Adelaide’s Smart City agenda will be showcased at the conference via Smart Parking. A new mobile app will be launched in mid-2018 enabling drivers to locate, pay for and remotely top-up their car park to the maximum available limit. The app will also provide directions for drivers to available spaces; display easy-to-understand information about parking controls; and deliver alerts when a parking session is about to expire. The plan envisions Adelaide as a playground for entrepreneurs and innovators, who will drive economic expansion, create new opportunities and fields, futureproofing South Australia against the rapid onslaught of changes in an ever evolving shared economy.
The event continues to be the largest major projects and infrastructure conference in the state, attracting close to 150 delegates each year. Featuring over 20 key speakers from a wide range of projects and industries, the conference facilitates over seven hours’ worth of networking opportunities, including a cocktail event on day one of the conference. The SA Major Projects Conference will be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre July 24th-July 25th.
